Resurfacing & Coefficient Testing

The Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF) test measures how slippery a surface is when walked on. Taking measures to improve the coefficient of friction (COF) helps prevent slip-fall accidents, which contribute to injuries in both residential and commercial environments. Our proprietary resurfacing these techniques provide optimal cleaning for stone and concrete.

DCOF quantifies the resistance to the sliding motion between surfaces, such as a foot and a floor. We are the only company in Hawaii to provide this test. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our services, you will receive a before-and-after DCOF report.

Pool Deck Resurfacing & Coefficient Testing

According to the National Safety Council, slips and falls are the leading cause of workers' compensation claims. Our specialized equipment will clean, remove stains, resurface, and improve the coefficient of friction (COF) of your pool deck. We take the necessary precautions to protect pools, residents, guests, and staff.

Our team conducts DCOF testing in real-world conditions, including motion such as walking on a wet surface. We are the only company in Hawaii to offer this specialized resurfacing service, DCOF testing, and provide before-and-after reports.

Stone Care & Maintenance

Stone is subject to wear, weathering, and age. Routine stone care and maintenance is crucial for the aesthetic appeal and structural integrity of stone. Our cleaning and sealing services will help you maintain and preserve your stone. Stain removal is one of our top-requested services. Difficult stains and uneven edges (or lips) may require some resurfacing during the first service. Water features should have a regular maintenance schedule to decrease mineral deposit buildup, known as efflorescence.

For over 20 years, James Thomas Stone has been delivering stone restoration services for some of Hawaii's most prestigious homes and properties, including the Honolulu Museum of Art, Kaiser Estate, and other properties. Restoration techniques include cleaning, resurfacing, and repair, which can reverse damage and prevent further deterioration. Regardless of how challenging or complex the issue is, our innovative repair and restoration service can restore the stone to its original appearance.

Stain and Efflorescence Removal

Efflorescence is a gradual buildup of mineral deposits or salts that are naturally occurring and are very difficult to remove. Efflorescence occurs around faucets and water features, causing noticeable changes in the stone's surface that appear cloudy or white. The photo above shows efflorescence on and near a water feature. Wherever water touches the stone, it appears white or cloudy, evidence of mineral deposits.

Special Projects

Very often, a special project involves restoration. However, some projects require custom fabrication and installation. Our extensive experience enables us to think creatively and deliver innovative solutions to challenging, complex projects, such as Luxury Row in Waikiki and the Kaiser Estate.
